Antoine Griezmann is supposedly on his way to the Old Trafford after talks reach an advanced level
After reports of Atletico Madrid star turning down a lucrative offer from Barcelona, Premier League side Manchester United have emerged as his likely destination. There’s news that the talks between the two parties have surged and Jose Mourinho apparently has a huge role to play.
The Portuguese gaffer has promised him his full backing, something the player appeared to lack by the end of the recently concluded season. Griezmann was apparently booed by his own fans in the last game of the league. But he managed to silence it all with a brace in the 3-0 vanquish of Marseille in the Europa League final just days later.
Barcelona loomed large in the aftermath. They were in the driving seat to sign him, but Griezmann’s teammates convinced him to veto the move. So just when it seemed that the 27-year old is staying put, the fans are dealt with another blow. And this can be a fatal one.

Reports suggest the talks are at an advanced level with the Red Devils. Mourinho is offering him the same starring role at United that he enjoyed until now at Atletico, despite having a wealth of attacking riches in his squad.
It may not necessarily be the centre-forward role, as Romelu Lukaku thrived in that position this season. Maybe the number 10 role of Jese Lingard or even the right-wing position, as United have struggled to find someone to cut inside from there. Griezmann fits the role perfectly.
Griezmann might definitely pocket a greater pay cheque at United but won’t enjoy the same liberty of going forward as Lukaku is already doing it. Atletico’s game is mostly centred around him and like the club chief once said, he can also become a legend someday.
