Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin talked about Koke having a pre-agreement with Real Madrid
Koke joined Atletico Madrid in 2011, is a centre midfielder. He has got 30 goals and 85 assists for Rojiblancos over the years. He has been a part of the team since 2000.
Koke signed his latest deal in 2014, pledging another five years to the team he has known as man and boy. He has won five major honours with one club only.
Heartbreak in the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals against Real Madrid has also been part of the ride for Koke, who has been capped 32 times at international level.
Marin said: “One of the signings that I am most proud of is that of Koke. It cost me to keep him when he had a pre-agreement with Real Madrid. I have to speak a lot to undo that.”
Sporting director Jose Luis Perez Camerino said, “He is a very supportive player with the group, who works tirelessly, with a great quality and an enormous capacity for improvement.
“He is one of the leaders of this team and has been raised from a very young age with the values of our academy, so knowing that he will continue with us for many years is the best news.”
Real Madrid is struggling with their gameplay, lagging 14 points behind La Liga leader Barcelona. They need to bring young players in the team. Koke is one of the best signings of Atletico and will have a great future at the Bernabeu.
With the form he has been at the club, it shows he might have a lovely time at the Bernabeu with his Spanish teammates. It will good for his career if he plays for Real Madrid but I think he should continue at the club that has given him so much respect and glamour.
