Atletico Madrid “not amused” with Barcelona’s pursuit on their superstar

Barcelona has been very vocal about their pursuit to obtain Antonie Griezmann with players and board constantly hinting towards a move. It seems Atletico Madrid are not “OK” with this

A few days back, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted that he held talks with Griezmann’s representatives in October regarding a possible deal. He said: “I saw Griezmann one day on holiday. We met with his agent, yes. It was in October. We talk with [Atleti president Enrique] Cerezo about many topics. We have a good relationship with them.”

But it seems that the Atletico Madrid is not very happy with it as they have grown “fed up with Barcelona’s attitude” as the Catalans continue to openly court  Griezmann. Constant rumors about his potential departure have made them restless and it was quite evident in the recent statement by the club’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Martin on the official website [via Goal.com].

“Atlético de Madrid’s stance is very clear and has been made public on numerous occasions. Not once have we negotiated for Griezmann nor do we have any intention to do so. A few months ago, I personally expressed to Barcelona’s president that our player isn’t for sale nor are we going to sell him.

At the same time, I let him know that his inappropriate conduct was against the integrity of the competition, especially since we’ve been competing for the league title throughout the season and Barcelona have been continuously pressuring one of the most relevant players from our squad.

I also told him in that moment, that in the chance the player exercised his right to nullify his contract due to their pressure throughout the season that Atlético de Madrid would demand Barcelona compensation for their inappropriate behaviour. Enough is enough. I hope this statement serves its purpose and that us Atlético fans can enjoy this moment and prepare ourselves for a final like we should.”

These statements are a very clear indication of Atletico Madrid’s anguish. After all, Griezmann has been a superstar for them. The France international is currently at the 4th spot in the list of most goals this season in La Liga. It’d be a huge loss for them if he moves to Camp Nou.

Author’s Take :

Griezmann has been regarded as one of the modern great with believable dribbling and finishing skills and he has been the key in Atletico Madrid flight in the recent years. Barcelona has been eyeing him for a long time and has made it public that they are going for him. This is why the Atletico president isn’t happy because it has deviated the focus from Europa League final which is the top priority.
