Atletico Madrid already have Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann in their ranks but Sky reporter confirms their interest in the former Gunners forward.
Atletico Madrid have always been regarded as the third biggest team in Spain. This transfer window they seemed to have addressed all their weaknesses. Now, Diego Simeone looks to add depth to the squad by recreating the French World Cup-winning front line. Oliver Giroud might reunite with Griezmannand help Atleti add the 11th league title to their honours list.
Atletico have made an inquiry
Giroud to Atletico Madrid might just be happening according to Sky Sports man Michael Bridge.“It is really out of the blue,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.“Atletico have made an enquiry. It depends on Chelsea’s pursuit of Higuain. If Giroud goes, Chelsea would hope to do a permanent deal.”
This comes after the Spanish club were monitoring AC Milan forward, Nikola Kalinic. But they might be looking to reconsidered their approach because of the dealy by the Rossoneri. The Milanese forward is reportedly Simeone’s primary target. Giroud will only come in the picture if negotiations for the Croatian striker fail to materialize. It might trigger a domino effect on to this transfer window. Kevin Gameiro will be offloaded to Valencia who then will look to move Simone Zaza on.

The odd one out?
Giroud ended a five and a half year association with the Gunners and joined fellow Londoners, Chelsea. He immediately struck the right notes and dislodged Alvaro Morata from the starting eleven. Deschamps took him to the World Cup ahead of the talented Lacazette and the exiled Benzema.
The 31-year-old played a key role in France’s World Cup glory run despite him not netting even once. He allowed the likes of Griezmann and Mbappe to flourish which quietly allowing the Les Blues to construct attacks. The Chelsea striker is the odd man out but that’s kind of the point. The fact that he had enjoyed the most minutes under Deschamps tenure is a credit to his tactical discipline in a side flooded with star talent.
This season will be the opening for Atletico Madrid to sneak in a league title. And it might also be the last opportunity for Simeone to secure a winners medal with the Rojiblancos. They seemed to have addressed all the areas of weaknesses and have made some quality additions like Rodri and Lemar. I never thought I would say this but Giroud might be the last piece of the jigsaw.
