The last day of the 2020/21 Premier League season could be filled with drama and a few twists and turns. Aston Villa has confirmed an 11th placed finish for themselves this season. While Chelsea are chasing a top-four finish to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Despite the safety of 11th place, Dean Smith is not ready to allow his team to rest on their laurels. He has already warned the Blues that Aston Villa will “go all out to win” this game. Thus the Blues should not expect this to be a formality given that the Villans position is secured.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will need a victory to confirm their place in the top four. If they drop points then their top four faith will rely upon the results of Leicester City and Liverpool. Thus the Blues are in control of their destiny for a top-four finish and they would want to make the most out of it as well.
Analysis: Aston Villa vs Chelsea
The Lions will be aggressive in this game for two reasons. First, they have momentum with them given that they defeated Tottenham away from home 1-2. It was a good performance from Dean Smith’s side. Second, they are guaranteed to finish 11th, they don’t have anything big at stake, and chances of getting all out against big teams don’t come often for Villa.
Chelsea should be a bit concerned ahead of the game. In recent games, they have struggled to score goals. They are unable to score against Arsenal and Leicester City. Against the Foxes, in the league, it was a set-piece and a corner kick through which they scored. On the other hand, they have been conceding goals through defensive errors as well.
However, the Blues will have one advantage over the Lions. Aston Villa are likely to try to press them high up the pitch. Chelsea has shown that they can bypass the press and open up teams easily.

Head to Head Stats: Aston Villa vs Chelsea

Total Played: 156 (Source: 11vs11)
Aston Villa Won: 57
Chelsea Won: 64
Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
The Englishman is one of the best players in the Premier League. He is also the best player at Villa Park as well. For the home side to score against Chelsea he will have to be at his lethal best. If the Blues are able to contain him they will largely be able to restrict the Villan’s attacks.
Since playing well against Real Madrid the Italian has struggled to have a similar impact. Due to his lack of pace and physicality, the Villa players could try to press him more. If he is able to get the ball out of it, Chelsea could launch an attack. If he is unable to the Blues will be open at the back. Also in possession, he will have to keep his team ticking if Aston Villa decides to sit back.
12th Man Opinion: Aston Villa 1 vs Chelsea 2
Aston Villa should be able to score atleast one goal but Chelsea has enough quality to win this one.
