Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his midfield having shortlisted Geoffrey Kondogbia. The Frenchman is currently on loan at Valencia from Inter Milan.
The Gunners are having a poor season in the league with the top 4 finish almost out of their reach. The London based club is planning to bring in some new faces at the club in the summer to change their fortunes.
According to the reports in FC Inter News, Inter Milan’s defensive midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is currently on loan at Valencia is one of Wenger’s top target. The Spanish club also has an option to buy the midfielder after his loan spell, which might make the transfer complicated.
Inter to Valencia to Arsenal?
Inter signed the 25-year old from Monaco in 2015 for €40.5m. The Frenchman spent two seasons at the club before being sent on loan to Valencia in 2017. Kondogbia has since become the important figure for Los Che, making 32 appearances so far. The midfielder has also scored 4 and assisted 4 in the league.
Arsenal is looking to sign the player in the summer transfer window, but things won’t be all too easy for the Gunners. Valencia needs to pay only £22m to make the deal permanent. The reports suggest that the Spanish club will buy the player and offload him to Arsenal, making a profit in the process. Given Kondogbia’s quality and age, Arsenal might have to offer a sizable amount. To add to his worries, Wenger might need to fight Pochettino for the player, as Tottenham are also linked with him.

Wenger has a number of options in the midfield but his players have mostly let him down this season. One of Arsenal’s long-time player, Jack Wilshere will be out of contract in June 2018 and has not signed the contract extension yet.
Arsenal will face Watford in the league on Sunday before hosting AC Milan in Europa League.
Kondogbia is a quality defensive midfielder who can shield his centre-backs. The player has an ability to move the ball forward with precision and can fend off the attack by soaking the pressure. But looking at his current contract situation, Valencia will not make it any easy for the Gunners to get the player. And if the player helps the Spanish club to beat Real Madrid for the 3rd place in coming months, they might not want to sell him at all.
