Arsenal eye shock move for out-of-favour Italy forward

Arsenal has reportedly shown their interest and is eyeing a shock move for Nice and Italy star forward Mario Balotelli.

Gunners have undergone a summer change with Unai Emery replacing Arsene Wenger for the managerial post. The former Paris-Saint Germain manager is looking to make his first ever signing for the Gunners and reportedly has shown the interest in signing Mario Balotelli from the French side Nice. According to the reports in France, Mario Balotelli’s agent Mini Raiola has begun talks with the interested clubs and Gunners are making the list.

With Balotelli having a bizarre season at Anfield, the 27-year-old forward made a move to France in 2016, joining Ligue 1 side Nice. The former Milan man has become successful to reshape his career with a scoring tally of 42 goals for the French side. His incredible campaign appears to have attracted many of the top European clubs. The striker has made a stunning return to Italy, scoring the opening goal for his country in a 2-1 victory against Saudi Arabia.

Balotelli has considerable experience of playing in the Premier League. The Italian striker has made 54 appearances for Manchester City and found the net 16 times. However, his stint with Liverpool did not go as expected, scoring just once in 16 appearances for the Reds. Ligue 1 side are demanding transfer fee around £9 million for their frontman. Italian side Napoli are also linked with the Nice striker.

However, Balotelli did say back in 2016 in an interview that he wouldn’t have any problem in returning to England.

Balotelli has revived his career at Nice

‘‘If I go back [to England] it would not be to Liverpool,’’ he told Xinhua.

‘‘Because I found myself [performing] very bad in Liverpool. I said the team was good and the fans are amazing, but I would never go back to Liverpool.’’

‘‘The first one I think in England is Manchester City, and the second team I always like is Arsenal. That doesn’t mean I’ll go to play there. I just like them.’’

Whilst Baletoli’s has hinted that he would be interested to go to Italy with Napoli but club President Aurelio De Laurentiis has suggested that this season’s Serie A runners-up are not looking for the striker in the transfer market.

Author’s Take:

If this happens it would be one of the weirdest and one of the riskiest signings of this transfer window.

Balotelli will substantially change the pattern of Gunners’ attack and create an issue with the selection of forwards, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Initially, Arsenal should try to solve the midfield problem and also should try to inject some quality in their backline.
