Arsenal are looking to sign a creative midfielder from Ligue 1 and a reliable Journalist spreads clarity on the situation.
Arsenal has had a pretty good transfer window as they have signed some good players very early in the window. The Gunners were quick to pounce on Willian as he left Chelsea as a free agent. The 32-year-old will provide depth for Mikel Arteta on either wing or can play as an attacking midfielder as well.
Moreover, Arsenal recently put a tick on the transfers of Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari. The former signed from Premier League Club Southampton and the latter came from Flamengo. Both the players came to Arsenal on a loan in January.
Furthermore, William Saliba has ended his 1-year long loan at Saint-Etienne and will feature in defense for them. Moreover, Aubameyang is very close to signing a contract extension and will play for gunners in the upcoming season.
However, Mikel Arteta and Co are not stopping here, they want a creative midfielder in the form of Houssem Aouar. Italian Journalist ‘Fabrizio Romano’ has spoken about the situation in a podcast with Lee Gunner.
What has Romano said about Houssem Aouar and Arsenal?
“If we speak about Aouar, it will be €60m-€70m, so it will be so difficult to take Aouar. The Arsenal board is in love with Aouar, Mikel Arteta is in love with Aouar, so for sure they will try to sign him”, Romano said when asked about Aouar.
This clearly indicates that Arteta will try everything to convince the player to come to London. However, the cost of the player could be a major factor in Aouar’s future and how this deal will go through.
According to L’Equipe, The London Club were trying different methods in order to land the French midfielder. Arsenal offered Mateo Guendouzi as a part of the deal to reduce the asking price of Houssem Aouar.
However, Lyon completely disagrees with this offer as they want cash straight up for the player. Thus, this deal could be a bit difficult as the French club wants £62 million upfront and Arsenal look reluctant to pay this sum.
Can Houssem Aouar shine at the Emirates Stadium?
The 22-year-old is consistently performing for Lyon since the 2017/18 season. In the last 3 seasons, he has over 50 Goal contributions for his team, which shows how much he can offer to a team like Arsenal. Aouar usually plays on the left side of the midfield, but can be deployed as a defensive midfielder or a left-winger.
Recently, he helped his club to reach the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League playing a very vital role in the Quarter-final against Manchester City. Houssem Aouar was heavily involved in the two goals Lyon scored against City in the late stages of the game.
Aouar could become a long term replacement for Mesut Ozil as the gunners desperately need an attacking midfielder. Moreover, Dani Ceballos is back with Real Madrid and could continue at the Spanish Club. The signature of Houssem Aouar will improve Arsenal’s current midfield and bring creativity to the side.
