Arsenal has contacted Dortmund for the defender and asked Roma for a swap deal of Mkhitaryan.
The defense has been a problem for a long time now. Arsenal previously made signings in terms of Mustafi and Papastathopoulos but both have them haven’t been up to standards. Both of them have been injury-prone and haven’t shown great performances when fit.
Accordingly Arteta is looking to boost his defensive options. The club has already confirmed a move for William Saliba. But Arteta still wants another center back to go to.
As per reports from the Daily Mail, the Gunners are preparing a 25 million bid for Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji. The gunners were interested in the player in the last window too. But Dortmund was not willing to let Akanji go after Abdou Diallo’s move to PSG.
But according to German outlet FussballTransfers Arsenal have reinitiated their pursuit for the Swiss International. Akanji has been in and out of the squad for Dortmund this season after an impressive first season for the side.
It looks this time Arsenal just might find success. Although persuading Dortmund won’t be easy. Akanji has 34 appearances for Dortmund this season in all competitions. Even in Bundesliga’s restart he played for the full 90 minute period against Schalke.
Plus his contract with the club is up to 2022. Also Dortmund is in a considerably better position than Arsenal in comparison to their performances this season. While Arteta wants such a powerful presence in his defense the Gunners will have to prepare a very big contract to lure Akanji to the Emirates.
A swap deal including Mkhitaryan and Kluivert on Arteta’s agenda
Kluivert is a Dutch International who rose and paved his way through Ajax’s ranks. He was also part of Ajax’s squad which went up to the third qualification round in the Champions in 17-18.
Ziyech and Kluivert were the right-wing and left-wing attackers for Ajax. In 2018 Ajax made the decision to sell the player to Roma for a fee of 17.25 million. Kluivert also has Dutch Senior team caps under him and has shown potential in his play.
Before moving to Roma there were rumors of a move to the Premier League. In his statement with Joe he said, “If you get a nice offer, you never know,”. “England appeals to me: Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea or Manchester United are nice clubs where I can see myself playing in a few years”.
He has 7 goals 2 assists 27 appearances for Roma in all competitions. At just 21 he has tons of potential to improve and is a player that has impressed Arteta. He could become a Legend at Arsenal.
According to football London a deal would see Kluivert heading to Arsenal and Mkhitaryan to Roma permanently. Arsenal would additionally pay a figure of 13 million to the Italian outfit to sweeten up the transfer.
Kluivert’s father also played in the Premier League as a striker for Newcastle and it looks like his son might follow in his footsteps. Arsenal too could use a proper left winger in their squad, as Lacazette isn’t really performing well in his makeshift role.
