The Gunners faithful have been given renewed hope of another man leading their side after Frenchman Patrick Viera claimed he would hope to return back to Arsenal.
Viera is currently the head coach of Major League Soccer club New York City FC since 2016 and has been linked with replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal at the end of the season. But the former apprentice has revealed that he would have to wait for Wenger to leave on his own terms before he could take over.
With Arsenal likely to miss out on a top 4 spot this season as well, Wenger’s speculation has come under heavy scrutiny from the Arsenal fans as well as the board. The North London side will now have to win the Europa League in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.
“I Adore Wenger”- Viera
The 41-year-old former Arsenal midfielder backed his former manager by stating that he knows the club very well and will step down at the right time. Viera spoke to L’Equipe saying, “I think that if it is the end of the story, he’ll be the first to see it. And I would like to add that given all he has done for the club, what he has built and what he has won, he has sufficient legitimacy to decide himself when he should step down. He has the right to take that decision himself.”
Viera, who captained Arsenal during the time of their “Invincible” run, was asked about his choice of steering the ship, to which he replied, “Let’s say that, one day, it could interest me. But maybe one day. I can’t say more, because there is nothing to say about it and I certainly do not want to upset Arsene, who I adore and for whom I have a lot of respect.”
Certainly, this has excited the Arsenal fans as Viera was a fantastic leader on the pitch who was the midfield engine for the club on the pitch. His robust nature is definitely what is required by the club, who are currently lacking any ambition and direction. According to me, Arsene Wenger should not be Arsenal manager come next season and should pass on the reigns to someone else.
