Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur haven’t been up to the mark in terms of on-field performances. Both the teams lacked consistency and they had mixed results in the first half of the season. However, the Gunners picked up the lessons from 3-1 defeat to Everton.
They remained unbeaten in 7 games this season. Unfortunately, they lost to Wolves in a controversial 2-1 defeat. The Gunners played with 9 men as David Luiz and Bernd Leno were sent off. Wolves completed a double over Arsenal for the first time since 1979.
After that, they locked horns with Aston Villa. The Gunners lost to Villa in the home fixture. Aston Villa netted 3 goals to seal the victory. Now, they once again repeated the winning formula as they beat the Gunners by 1-0.
This is Aston Villa’s third consecutive win over Arsenal in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side are 10th in the points table with 31 points. They won 9 games, played out 4 draws, and lost 10 games. On the other hand, Spurs are not in good form either.
Jose Mourinho’s team are 9th in the table with 33 points. They won 9 games and played out 6 draws so far. Spurs lost 6 games this season. In fact, they lost 3 games in a row. Spurs lost to Liverpool, Brighton, and Chelsea.
Arsenal in the race to sign Evan N’Dicka:
As per the reports, Arsenal are leading the race to sign a new defender to fill the void. The report goes on to add saying that even Spurs are in the race to sign the defender. However, the Gunners are reportedly ahead of their North London rivals to sign the player.
The report added that both clubs are running after to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka. France Under-21s international is a talented defender. The 21-year-old joined the German club from Auxerre three years ago.
Since then he went to represent the club in 82 games across all competitions. As far as the 2020-21 season is concerned, he made 12 appearances. According to a report from Bild, Arsenal and Tottenham have been scouting the young defender in the ongoing season.
The report also claimed that Arsenal has an advantage owing to their affinity with the player’s agent, who was earlier engaged in Nicolas Pepe’s switch to the Emirates. Needless to say, Evan N’Dicka missed the start of the season due to an injury.
However, he has become a regular feature in recent weeks. He is playing an important role in Frankfurt winning 5 of their last six Bundesliga matches. Meanwhile, Southampton also looks to keep a tab on the centre-back.
A tough challenge awaits Gunners and Spurs
The first half of the season already came to a close. However, both the clubs are looking forward to a better second half this season. Arsenal will lock horns with Leeds United in the next game at the Emirates Stadium on February 14, Sunday.
Leeds United are 11th in the points table with 29 points including 9 wins, 2 draws and 10 defeats. On the other end of the spectrum, Spurs will take on West Brom at White Hart Lane on February 7, Sunday. West Brom are in the drop zone as they won 2 games, lost 14, and played out 6 draws.
