With Arsenal looking to bring in reinforcements for their next manager, the Gunners have joined the race for a Chelsea and Manchester United target.
The 26-year-old has been superb for the Italian side ever since his move back in 2012 and has even gone on to make more than a 150 appearances in the Serie A. However, with Arsenal and Chelsea looking for defensive reinforcements, it looks like all eyes have turned towards Kalidou Koulibaly with the Senegalese international becoming one of the most highly rated center-backs in the world.
According to reports from Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport, the Blues have re-entered the race for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window, with both Arsenal and Chelsea very interested but a move never materialized. However, instead, Kalidou Koulibaly stayed in Naples with Napoli and decided to help them try and win their first league title since the 1989/90 season.
While this has won Koulibaly plaudits in Naples, on the other hand, he has earned a reputation as Serie A’s most accomplished defenders despite a rocky start to his Italian football career. The 26-year-old arrived at Napoli during in May 2014 but soon established his place in the line-up. He’s won an average of 2.07 headed duels in 28 games during the 2016/17 season and made nearly 2.3 interceptions a game.
It’s not just his defensive abilities but Koulibaly boasts an average pass completion of just under 90%, which is down-right impressive given Napoli’s free-flowing attacking style of play. This would not only make the Napoli man perfect for Arsenal but also make him a brilliant replacement for Laurent Koscielny. The Frenchman has been ruled out for at least six months, after tearing his Achilles during the Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Not only that, the Gunners need a brand new defensive center-back and someone like Koulibaly would be perfect for them. That’s exactly why according to reports from Metro.co.uk, the Gunners are looking to build their defense around the 26-year-old. Not only that, the Gunners are more than willing to pay Napoli’s asking rate of £53 million next summer. This would give the North London side an advantage over the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, who have so far balked at the asking rate.
This season has seen Arsenal struggle to impose themselves and many have pointed their horrific defensive record as the main reason. The North London side has failed to win an away game so far in 2018 and have also gone on to concede the most goals among the top 6 teams. Which is why Arsenal should actually spend money on defensive reinforcements.
While Kalidou Koulibaly is a brilliant reader of the game and is tactically aware, the 26 year old also happens to be a very good passer of the ball. This combined with his strengthen and defensive prowess makes him perfect for the Premier League and perfect for any one of the three clubs after his services.
