Arsenal is angry at Atletico Madrid over the unfair treatment of the Uruguay international

Arsenal senior officials are said to very furious and upset over Atletico Madrid’s treatment with the loanee Lucas Torreira. The on-loan midfielder is losing his value after the Spanish side only allows Torreira to start just ‘Twice’ in the current season. Whereas the rest of four appearances came from the bench.

The parent club of Lucas Torreira is all worried about the situation in the Spanish capital. According to Libertad Digital, Arsenal believes that Atletico wants to lower down the value of Urugyuan international for the coming season. Moreover, Atletico Madrid was infuriated with Arsenal after the Premier League side signed Thomas Partey.

After falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta and his season getting bloated with a serious ankle injury. Torreira understood the need to join another club in order to get sufficient game time. Torreira left for Atletico Madrid after giving 89 appearances for the Gunners in which he scored four goals and six assists.

After months of speculations and transfer talks, Lucas Torreira finally sealed a temporary exit from Arsenal on the transfer deadline day back. Torreira was signed as a direct consequence of Thomas Partey moving in the opposite direction. Both the club agreed to a season-long loan deal with no obligation to buy him at the end of the contract.

There was a belief at Emirates stadium that the midfielder who Arsenal signed in 2018 for £26million would get the playing time. However, Torreira did not meet the expectations and is facing much uncertainty on the Spanish side. The Arsenal on-loan midfielder is only limited to just nine appearances for Diego Simeone’s side for all competition.

Atletico failed to live up to the expectations of either Arsenal or Torreira. The Uruguayan was expected to play a key role under Diego Simeone. But on contrary, he could only feature in two league games. While he was forced to start each game on the bench for the champions league.

To Arsenal’s surprise, the Gunners were unaware that Atletico would look to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia from Valencia last November. Even after having a number of midfielders in the squad the club who sits first in La Liga signed the defensive midfielder.

The club was granted an exception by La Liga to sign a player outside of the window. Following the signing of Thomas Partey by Arsenal on the deadline day. This signing further put Torreira out of the sight of fans and clubs.

Arsenal hierarchy has tipped to recall their midfielder after terminating the loan deal. The Gunners fear that sidelining Torreira for too long following the lack of appearances would devalue the midfielder. Just like Arsenal hierarchy is reportedly angry with Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners believe that the unfair treatment of Torreira is the result of their last minutes’ bid to meet Thomas partey £45m release clause with no prior warning. This last gasp resulted in leaving Atletico livid. Kondogbia, the exemption signing plays the exact role to that of Torreira. The similarity in playing style has further impacted the on-loan midfielder game time.

As the transfer window is still active and a number of outgoing and incoming is set to happen. It remains unsure if Arsenal could cut short the loan spell when Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has clearly turned down any claims. He denies that his side is making deliberate attempts to devalue the midfielder.

Pablo Bentancur, Torriera agent told Gianluca Di Marzio in December that his agent Lucas is happy and calm at Atletico Madrid. He has nothing in mind except continuing for the club. He also insisted that Toerrira is just finishing his process of adaptation to the team and La Liga.
