Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Slavia Prague striker forward Abdallah Sima this summer. And according to Todo Fichajes, the club have contacted the Czech Republic club about a potential deal for the highly-rated youngster and are ready to pay £15 million to get the signing done.
The 19-year-old has been in scintillating form this season. He has scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in just 13 starts in the Czech league this season. His impressive form is not just limited to the league. But he has continued his scoring form in the European games as well.
The Senegal international has scored 4 goals in eight Europa League games this season. One of those goals came against Leicester City, as Slavia shocked the Foxes to win 2-0 at the King Park Stadium to eliminate the Premier League club out of the competition.
The Gunners are keeping their tabs on the striker and will look to make the move for him in the summer. But they face stiff competition from several European clubs including Everton and West Ham United.
Arsenal in need of a new striker – Abdallah Sima
Mike Arteta’s side have endured a very underwhelming 2020-21 season so far. They did win their latest Premier League game away to Leicester City. But the club are tenth in the league table and eight points behind fourth-placed West Ham United.
Their poor form is largely down to their lack of creating and scoring goals. The Gunners have scored the least amount of goals among the teams in the top ten of the table. That is, just 34 goals in 26 games.
Talisman Pierre Emerick-Aubamyenag has been very inconsistent in front of goal. The Gabonese forward has only scored 8 goals in 22 league games. His off-field problem has not helped him as well. Alexandre Lacazette has played well in the absence of Aubameyang and is the club’s top-scorer this season. But there are doubts over the Frenchman’s future at the Emirates. He is yet to sign a new deal, with the current one set to expire in 2022. He is likely to leave the North-London club at the end of this season, with AS Monaco interested to take him back to France.
Lacazette’s departure will leave a gaping hope in Arsenal’s attack. As a result, Arteta is keen to add a young and talented striker, who can play second fiddle to main striker Aubemeyang. And Slavia Prague’s Sima fits that bill perfectly.
Competition from Premier League clubs
Everton and West Ham are set to rival Arsenal for the signing of Abdallah Sima. West Ham were very close to signing the youngster in the January transfer window. But was put-off by Slavia’s asking price. They are likely to go again for him in the coming transfer window.
As for Everton, they are planning to make a bid in the coming months for Sima, as they aim to improve their forward line. The Toffees could sign Sima as a replacement for Brazilian winger Bernard.
All the above mentioned clubs have been impressed by Sima’s incredible breakthrough season. His hard-working nature and impressive technical ability is perfect for the Premier League.
If Arsenal want to land their man, they will have to act fast. Also, given the low fee, it could end up being a superb business in the long-run.
