Mikel Arteta looking to bolster the defensive line for Arsenal.
Arsenal has finally fit rock bottom this season. Any hopes of a turnaround were squandered by a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Mikel Arteta took responsibility and was the first to apologize to Arsenal fans after their defeat.
As of now the club’s only chance of European qualification is winning the Europa League. But there too Manchester United are one of the major obstacles for Arsenal. Both United and Arsenal have comparatively easy draws and will hope to make it to the latter stages.
But apart from that there isn’t much left in Gunner’s season. There are certain areas where the squad needs improvement. Mikel Arteta knows that he needs a major shake-up at the club. Arsenal’s management may not stick with Arteta if things go sideways.
But the manager will believe that he will be given more time. It has to start with defense for Mikel Arteta as that is their biggest weakness. The Gunners will have to assess which players do they need to stick with and where do they need to bring in reinforcements.
Arsenal are in contact with Feyenoord regarding the availability of one Tyrell Malacia. Malacia plays as a left-back for the Eredivisie outfit and has been one of their regular starters.
Arsenal only has Kieran Tierney in that position who was recently injured. In that scenario, the club has to play Cedric as a left-back. Malacia’s arrival would provide a reliable backup for Arteta.
Tyrell Malacia could be the first of many changes for the Gunners
The Gunners are looking to reinforce their defensive lines. The club needs an option for the left-back as well as the centre back slot. Tyrell Malacia could solve one of those problems for the Gunners.
The 21-year-old made his breakthrough to Feyenoord’s first team in the 2017-18 campaign. Since then he has been a crucial part of the team. The left-back has 79 club appearances to his name since joining the Dutch outfit.
Even in this season, he has played almost all games for the club. Arsenal are in need of someone like him. According to reports from Thehardtackle, Arsenal are looking to broker a deal for him
The Dutchman is known for his attacking qualities at the left flank. He has an average of one key pass and successful take on per match in this season along with solid defensive performances.
Ever since Kolasinac left for Schalke there has been a hole in Arsenal’s defence. Tierney has done his best to fill in that role but he himself is a youngster and needs some help. Tyrell Malacia’s experience could be very useful in that context.
At just £8 million it would be a good deal for Arsenal as other alternatives are comparatively costlier. This would also leave space for other defensive additions to the squad.
