Arsenal is in battle with time for adding the new players and strengthening the squad furthermore. Since the Gunners finished eighth for the second straight season in the Premier League, the disappointment is larger.
Various experts and football pundits have touted the Gunners to make some tough decisions this summer. They have also called for the overhaul of the fringe squad, which is fair enough. Since the first team players barring a few were just producing some shocking performances week in and week out.
However, Arsenal is now entirely focused on bringing a new creative midfielder. The element of creativity is a huge problem at Arsenal and they are looking well towards sorting that this summer.
Arsenal hoping to bring in Houssem Aouar
According to a report from Todo Fichajes, Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with Aouar. The club is keen to bring him to Emirates this summer.
However, this is after the James Maddison deal looks to be off. Leicester City recently rejected an offer of a player plus cash deal from Arsenal. Sources from Leicester City said that the club is not looking to sign the players offered by Arsenal. The Gunners offered Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
It is becoming clear that Arsenal cannot pay the asking price of £70 million for James Maddison. It was a shocker for them after Leicester City rejected their player’s offer, since Maddison was their primary target.
However, the club is now turning their focus towards Houssem Aouar. The Gunners were close towards signing him last summer, but a deal could not be reached. Nevertheless, the player did not force his way out of the club last season. But this time Aouar is desperate to leave Olympique Lyonnais.
The 23-year-old was far from impressive last season. In the starting days of the campaign, Aouar was impacted by COVID-19. Even after recovering from COVID-19, he sustained an injury just after weeks. This further kept him on the sidelines. However, the French International regained his form in the second half of the season.
Arsenal can still land him at a cut price deal, as even Lyon is desperate to sell players after suffering financially. If Arsenal pull this deal, it would certainly mean a lot for the club as well as the fans.
Other clubs are also keen on him
Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris St-Germain and a host of other clubs across Europe are said to hold an interest in Aouar. It is not quite sure how many clubs would move for him in the coming days, but the player is still generating interest.
Just a few weeks back Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly ready to move for him, but nothing has changed. But with the possible transfer of Harry Kane, Spurs could definitely move for him with the amount of cash they would have.
Arsenal will need to move swiftly if they are really very keen on him. The Gunners’ pre-season friendlies are already underway and there are only two weeks left for the new Premier League season to start.
