Unai Emery arrived to the Emirates at the beginning of this season and has already had a huge impact on the Gunners
Arsenal made a rather slow start to life under new manager Unai Emery as they lost both of their opening Premier league clashes against Chelsea and Manchester City respectively. However, since then, they haven’t looked back as they have gone from strength to strength and now sit at the 5th spot with 24 points, 8 adrift of leaders Manchester City. During that time, the Gunners also won 11 matches in succession before being held to a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park by Crystal Palace. The Gunners are also unbeaten in sixteen games now. Both strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang are in fine form as they were able to find the net consistently. Speaking about the side which finished sixth last season under former boss Arsene Wenger, Emery said.
“With time, only technical quality and offensive freedom were taken care of while losing defensive structure,’
What I want is to combine both and become more competitive. Arsenal was in a decline. We had to stop this, and begin climbing.
We started with an Arsenal that barely won against the top six, even though this year we haven’t done so yet either, but while also having serious difficulty winning away from home, something we have already improved upon.”
Arsenal have been very comfortable in the Europa league as well. They currently top their group with 10 points after 4 games and are poised to qualify for the next round with great ease. Up next, after the international break, the Gunners take on AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium.
Arsenal certainly seems to be a changed unit under new manager Unai Emery. Their defense, which has very often been their undoing in recent seasons, seems to be much more compact and solid.
