Arsenal boss Arteta dreams of landing a £71m worth target

Mikel Arteta is keen on signing Philippe Coutinho. The Arsenal boss has long been a big admirer of the Brazilian.

The former Liverpool star made a record transfer to Barcelona back in 2018. But the Brazilian could not shine much for the Spanish giants. Coutinho was later sent to the Bundesliga on a season-long loan. The winger did make a good debut for Bayern Munich.

With his loan period at Bayern now nearing an end, there is a new interest for the Brazilian. Arsenal has now got into the list of clubs showing interest. Chelsea, Tottenham, Leicester, and Newcastle are the other clubs.

According to Le10 Sport, Arteta is dreaming of making a move for the Brazilian. Arteta is a huge fan of Philippe Coutinho and hence is keen on making a move. But Barcelona will not be settling for anything less than £80m.

Arteta will have issues with the transfer fee. Arsenal chiefs are reluctant to provide huge transfer funds for Arteta.

The Spanish giants did sign the Brazilian for a record transfer fee. But Coutinho was unable to perform up to Barcelona’s expectations. This is despite Setien, the new manager, wanting to see what Coutinho can do. Barcelona chiefs may soon let go of their star. But the bars are kept quite high.

As per a report by SPORT, Barcelona is looking for around £80m for their star. Which is too high for Arsenal, with Arteta already suffocating with a tight budget. So it is likely that clubs will look for a loan deal for the winger. Barcelona is asking for a £13m loan fee which is also high. And want clubs to bear his wages which are around £250,000-a-week.

Barcelona also want an obligatory buying option in any deal. That is, the club will have to pay £58m at the end of the temporary stay. All of which adds up to a £71m deal exempting wages. Which is way too much for Arsenal in the current situation.

Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of Philippe Coutinho. The Spaniard is willing to make a move for the Brazilian.

According to French sources, Arteta has already made contact with his agent. Kia Joorabchian is the agent of the Brazilian and Le10 Sport hints a talk between them.

The addition of Coutinho can have a great impact on Arsenal. Philippe is a versatile player who can play at the left-wing and can play as a playmaker. He can also step up as a midfielder if the situation arises. Arsenal can be very much to make use of a player like Coutinho. Mikel Arteta wants to add more creativity to his midfield. At the same time he wants to add more forward play. Signing the Brazilian can help Arteta in working out a solution.

But transfer fees are a factor holding him down. Arsenal is facing financial problems with their UCL revenue already cut out. Now with the pandemic in tow, most clubs are suffering and Arsenal is also hit hard. Barcelona’s asking price is way too much for the North Londoners to afford. But like in desperate times we need to look for desperate measures. Hence, Arteta will surely try to make his dream work out somehow or the other.
