Italy had a splendid UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. Roberto Mancini’s men performed at the optimal level in each game and continued their unbeaten record which looks to be intact for days to come. A comprehensive performance from a comprehensive team.
On their way to UEFA glory, Italy found many youngsters taking the centre stage. Young players who took up the responsibility to perform in dire times. We can look at Federico Chiesa and see the maturity he showed in the knockout stages.
Two extremely crucial goals against Austria and Spain at important junctures. Furthermore, if we see the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Leonardo Spinazzola and Gianluigi Donnarumma – all of them are upcoming players.
Mixed with the experience of veteran players like Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Jorginho and Marco Veratti- they were the perfect squad. This is where Italy were ahead of other teams.
And one such player who impressed the most was Manuel Locatelli. The Sassuolo midfielder had a fantastic tournament and was one of the highlights of Italy. He scored two goals in the group stages against Switzerland.
Locatelli has seen his worth skyrocket after an impressive season. Coming in for the injured Marco Veratti, Locatelli showed maturity mixed with blistering pace and energy in the middle of the park.
Arsenal interested in Manuel Locatelli:
According to recent transfer rumours, Juventus are very much interested in Manuel Locatelli. They believe it’s possible to convince him to make the switch from Sassuolo. Furthermore, it’s an option likened by the player as well.
However, Premier League club Arsenal are rumoured to have entered the race for Manuel Locatelli. The Gunners have bid €40 million for the Juventus target. Although Locatelli’s first choice remains Juventus, Arsenal believe they can convince him.
Juventus’s latest bid of €30 million for Locatelli has faced some problems and Arsenal are currently ahead of them in the race. The Old Lady want to include players like Fagioli or Radu Dragusin as part of an exchange deal for Locatelli.
Nicolo Fagioli’s agent has given some interesting inputs here. Fagioli’s agent says that the 20-year-old will not be leaving Juventus this summer and also accepts that Arsenal have put in a bid for Manuel Locatelli.
“I think Massimiliano Allegri wants to see him [Fagioli] in training to understand if he can be useful during the season. When he played against SPAL and Crotone last term, he proved he can be a protagonist of Juventus’ future.
“Juventus would like to sign Locatelli and Arsenal have already offered €40m. But I can ensure you that, as of today, Fagioli has not been included in the deal.”
