Borussia Monchengladbach’s midfielder Florian Neuhaus has opened up about his future amid interest from Premier League clubs. Neuhaus has attracted interest from Arsenal and more strongly from Liverpool.
The 23-year-old German enjoyed a very successful season for Marco Rose’s side. He has played in 21 Bundesliga games out of a possible 22, starting in 19 of those. During that time, he has scored four and assisted four goals, as in Bundesliga they sit just outside the European places in eighth place.
Traditionally, a box-to-box midfielder, Neuhaus can play across the midfield. His performances this season have seen the likes of Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Liverpool linked with him.
But the former 1860 Munich man recently came out and said about staying with Monchengladbach until the expiration of his contract. His contract runs till 2024.
Neuhaus on his future:
In an interview with Kicker, Neuhaus expressed his desire to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach and that he is focused on finishing the season with the club. But he left the door open to a move in the summer. He said:
“I have a contract until 2024 and I have very big goals for this season. That’s why I’m concentrating on now. [Transfer talk] is really not a big issue for me now. I play at Borussia, I have a contract, and we as a club are still pursuing very big goals this season. I can’t say what will happen in the summer at the moment.
I’m also very relaxed about the future. Borussia is a club where I was able to develop excellently and where everything is there. I know what I have with Borussia.”
Arsenal and Liverpool can take a closer look at Neuhaus as his club face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 this week.
Arsenal and Liverpool interested in Neuhaus:
As said, Arsenal and Liverpool are eyeing a move for Nauhaus this summer. The Gunners are prioritising a midfielder in the summer. Dani Ceballos will likely return to Real Madrid unless they pay £30 million. And his form this season suggests it’s better of investing that money in someone more reliable. Also, Arsenal can’t afford Lyon’s asking price of £70 million for Houssem Aouar.
As for Liverpool, Georginio Wijnaldum will leave Anfield amid interest from FC Barcelona for free this summer. There are no indications that the Dutchman wants to extend his contract.
Neuhaus has a release clause of £35 million in his contract. He also admitted his primary goal is to win trophies, something he can’t do at Monchengladbach. That desire may lead him to seek a move away from Germany this summer. And there are plenty of suitors for him, given his low release clause.
Marco Rose was recently confirmed as the new Dortmund coach and will take over the role starting next season. He might bring Neuhaus to the Signal Iduna Park with him. So, if Arsenal and Liverpool want Neuhaus this summer, they need to act fast.
