Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan target set to leave the Bundesliga giants during the summer transfer window after negotiations have reportedly broken down over a new contract.
This season was supposed to be a do-over after 2016/17’s miserable fifth place finish but nothing has changed for Arsenal. While Arsene Wenger has announced his departure at the end of the season from a club that he has steadily led into the unknown future, the Gunners look worse for wear at the end of the legendary Premier League manager’s incredible tenure. However, what’s worse is the fact in Arsene Wenger’s last season; Arsenal will not make the top four and have struggled to win an away game in 2018 with just one win in eight away games this year.
That’s exactly why; the Arsenal board and their recruitment staff have decided to target reinforcements in defense, with the club targeting the likes of Jerome Boateng, Clement Lenglet, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and many others to bring in. However, it looks like thanks to Sven Mislintat’s connection to the Bundesliga and Borussia Dortmund, 29 year old Greek international makes the cut above the rest.
With Arsenal looking to bring in new leaders and experienced defenders, the Colossus of Borussia Dortmund as the Bundesliga has called him would be perfect for the team. And according to reports from ESPN, Sky Sports and German news outlet Kicker, the Greek international has refused a latest contract extention from the German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Despite an early season lead over eventually Champions Bayern Munich, Dortmund struggled to impose themselves after October of 2017 and eventually fell to a fourth place finish, losing to the likes of Mainz and Hoffenheim in the last two games of the season. This has lead Sokratis Papastathopoulos to rethink his decision to stay with the club, and thus opened the way forward for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Kicker write Arsenal favourites to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund for around €15-20m, reuniting the Greek defender with former BVB teammates Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 29 year old has offers from other English clubs and the Serie A, the reports further adds but Arsenal reportedly lead the race for the €20 million Dortmund star. The Gunners are looking to let the likes of Shkrodan Mustafi and Hector Bellerin go and whith Laurent Koscienly out for atleast six months, the Premier League giants need defensive reinforcements.
Arsenal need a new defensive line to complement their forwards, especially if they keep conceding goals like the way they are right now. Both Laurent Koscienly and Shkrodan Mustafi haven’t been at their very best this season, while Petr Cech is growing older and older day by day. While Sokratis Papastathopoulos would be a valuable addition, the Gunners should try and add another right-back as well to their books.
