Man City is looking to boast defense as they are looking for a partner for Laporte.
John Stones is going through a difficult patch in his professional career. When he first made the move from Everton there was a very high expectation from him. But Stones hasn’t really been able to live up to them.
You can blame the player but a key reason for his lost form is his injury problems. In his second season with the club, he had a long term injury which kept him out. He regained his fitness in the 2018-19 season but then had a difficult injury again this year.
The player has been a part of 16 Premier League matches. These aren’t even all starts for him and also include appearances off the bench. Since the Restart, though Stones is enjoying some game time. And he might still have a chance but with Manchester City, things are always uncertain.
I’ve said many times I’m more than delighted with John as a person, as a pro, everything. What I want is the best for him. We’ll speak at the end of the season about what is going to happen.
“Sometimes my wish is not the wish of the players or the wish of the situation for the club. At the moment [if] I will feel it, if we have to change, we’ll talk to them.
He’s a young player and we want him to be consistent, to train and recover. There are players who can play every three days for 11 months, others struggle more to be fit and we try to find the key to playing every three days.”
This was Pep’s statement on the situation. Although it’s a bit confusing, but for Stones, the priority is always game time. And if he won’t get it he might as well Manchester City.
The defender’s exit from City could be good news for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has worked with Stones before when he was with Manchester City. He knows that Stones is capable of much better and could start fresh with Arsenal.
According to 90min, Arsenal is willing to offer a way out for Stones. The Gunners are in dire need of a center back. And Stones would be a perfect fit for them too. Arsenal is ready to pay £50 million for adding him to their team.
According to BBC Sports Bournemouth accepted city’s £41 million bid for Nathan Ake. With Garcia and Laporte in good form, this makes it even more difficult for Jones to regain his first-team spot.
But Arsenal won’t be the only club interested. Chelsea is on the lookout for a good center back too. And Paul Merson thinks the club should go for John Stones. Stones would fit right into their style of play and could be at his best again.
If the Ake deal is confirmed in the coming days. Then a move for Stones will be a realistic option for both the clubs. And both Arsenal and Chelsea could be a good destination for Stones. He also might get a fresh opportunity to restart his career.
