In the current scenario, a lot of teams are looking to improve their defensive line. There is a lot of values for young and upcoming centre-backs in the league right now and Erik Garcia is certainly one of them. Garcia had grown up through the ranks at Barcelona when Manchester City approached to sign him.
In 2017 Manchester City went to bring the youngster to their youth squad. The club was very hot initially on the player however things didn’t quite go as planned. Manchester City are a very tough club to compete for places.
The depth they have is just incredible. The bench players are as good enough to be starters for any other club. With the arrival of Ruben Dias and the recall of John Stones to the lineup, Garcia’s prospects of getting game time at Manchester City were looking very slim.
The player was being rumored to leave City in the last transfer window too. A lot of clubs were running behind his signature. Mikel Arteta was very impressed by the player and wanted to sign him for his project at Arsenal.
However, Arsenal faced competition from Barcelona as the Catalonians were hot on Garcia. They desperately want to reunite the former player with the club. Up until now, Pep had kept a tight approach towards news regarding Garcia but that has all changed.
In a recent turn of events Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has announced that Erik Garcia will be leaving the club to re-join Barcelona. The little hope that Arsenal had if any, has now ended.
Garcia is heading back to his friends at Catalonia:
Erik Garcia is one of the very talented players but he’s just not getting enough game time. It’s a situation where neither of the parties is at fault. With the likes of Laporte, John Stones, Ruben Dias, and Nathan Ake it’s really hard to find consistent game time for someone so young.
In this season itself, Garcia has featured in 9 games for Manchester City. In the club’s 2-1 victory against West Ham United Garcia was left out of the team sheet. After the game Pep went on to disclose about Garcia’s move to Barcelona.
Eric Garcia is like a son. He was a guy last season who, after lock-down, was our best central defender. He never made a mistake and played in the quarter-final of the Champions League,” Guardiola told Goal
“He’s going to play in Barcelona and that is not an average player – he is a top player.” When someone like Pep calls you special you certainly have talent. It a win-win situation for all parties involved.
Apparently, Barcelona has completed £8.9 million for the 20-year-old with Manchester City. Garcia has good relations with Barcelona’s starlet Ansu Fati who is really excited about Garcia making his return to Barcelona.
With Gerrard Pique getting old Barcelona are in need of a long-term replacement for him. Garcia is a very good candidate for the Catalonians. Finally, the club has some good news about what are really troublesome days for them.
