The Barcelona star has suffered a thigh strain on while playing for France and could face some time on the sidelines.
Digne arrived at Barcelona back in 2016 from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain and has mainly been used as a backup option for first choice Jordi Alba in the left-back slot and in Cup competitions. However, during an international friendly against Colombia last Saturday, Digne was on duty for France at the Stade De France Stadium. The hosts lost the game 3-2 and the Barcelona man picked up an injury to make matters worse for the La Liga giants.
Why Digne’s Injury is a Massive Blow To Barcelona-
The 24-year-old is generally plays second fiddle to the extraordinary Jordi Alba, who is arguably the best player in the world at left-back. But with the fixtures for Barcelona coming thick and fast, it’s a necessity to have your second choice players ready to fill in the void. Alba has had his injury concerns and the Catalonian’s will be hoping that he stays fit for the remainder of the campaign.
With the Champions League quarter-final clash against AS Roma and the La Liga schedule nearing its crucial end, this is probably the worst time for Digne to pick up an injury. This means that Alba may have to play the full 90 minutes with Barca praying he doesn’t pick up an injury.
Digne was reported to sustain a thigh injury which forced him off the pitch; this would keep him out of action for around 3 weeks’ time. Digne’s injury has only added to the list of Barcelona players that are currently on the border of match-fitness. Club talisman Lionel Messi hasn’t featured for his national side Argentina over their last two fixtures and Sergio Busquets suffered a knock against Chelsea in the Champions League.
According to me, I think Digne will have to play a role for Barcelona toward the end of the season, at least in the Cope Del Rey final against Sevilla or any La Liga games. Alba is quite injury prone and Barcelona may sweat over his fitness, hoping Digne is available for selection soon enough. Barcelona is on top of the La Liga table and would want any kind of slip-ups at this stage.
