Manchester United superstar reveals why he struggled last season

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez made a swoop from the Emirates Stadium to the Old Trafford this January. However, he has failed to match expectations. Now, he has spoken about why he couldn’t perform at his best.

Alexis Sanchez is one of the Premier League’s top players. The Manchester United forward made a big transfer from Arsenal to the Old Trafford in January this year. His deal involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving Manchester for London. The Armenian has done superbly to fit into his new club, however, Alexis Sanchez has struggled of late.

The left winger signed for Manchester United and failed to have an instant impact, contrary to the lethal stats he produced in 2016/17. The Chilean just scored three goals in eighteen matches under Jose Mourinho. The 29 year old also missed out on a World Cup berth with his national team and talked about the lack of time that he had to get accustomed to new pastures and teammates.

However, after a long vacation, the former Barcelona man is raring to go into the new season. “The truth is I’m very eager to get started with the new season, and I’m very motivated,” Sanchez told Sky Sports. “I think when you go to a new club in the middle of a season it’s always hard.

“In the five or six months that I’ve been here, it was all about learning, new training methods, working with a new coach and getting to know my team-mates. I want to now show everyone what I know I can do and what I’m capable of and bring something to the team and performing for my team-mates.”

Sanchez has also insisted that United must make “big signings” if they are to compete for major honours again. He highlighted Barca’s move for compatriot Arturo Vidal as an example of the quality the club should target. “At United we have to sign big players, with experience,” he added. “Barcelona just signed Arturo Vidal, who is a great player and my team-mate from Chile. He is an example of the type of players we need to sign in order to win trophies and compete at the highest level.

From what I’ve seen in training, Fred is a player who always wants to get forward. From a personal point of view I think we’ll be able to combine well and it will be good for my game.”

Alexis Sanchez showed what he can do being in his best form. Manchester United require him to turn up this season and he too is aware of that. A superlative season can be expected from the Chilean.
