Manchester United have been linked with a move for van de Beek as Ajax drop hint the midfielder could leave this summer.
Ajax’s Donny van de Beek can make his move abroad this summer as confirmed Erik ten Hag. Donny van de Beek is among some of the Ajax players who are ready to move to Europe’s biggest clubs as Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt did. And it is not unknown that Manchester United have an interest in signing van de Beek.
Donny van de Beek is another fabulous product of Ajax’s youth academy in recent years. Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt being among others. The brilliant Ajax team eliminated Real Madrid and Ronaldo’s Juventus en route to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-final. Ajax was sure Europe’s elites will come calling for their players after their breakout season. This did happen as de Jong left for his destined club FC Barcelona, and de Ligt joined Ronaldo at Juventus.
But still, some players such as van de Beek, Hakim Ziyech, and Andre Onana chose to stay for another season. Hakim Ziyech joined Chelsea in January this year and now van de Beek is also on his way to England.
Manchester United has made constant contact with their former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar who is now the chief executive Officer at Ajax. United are growing positive that van de Beek will sign for them this summer.
Manager Erik ten Hag Admits Van De Beek Could Leave Ajax
Ajax’s manager, Erik ten Hag also confirmed that van de Beek may leave this summer. The manager also admitted that keeper Onana and left-back Tagliafico are also on course to leave. ten Hag said:
“We made agreements with (Andre) Onana, (Nicolas) Tagliafico and van de Beek to stay here for another season. But it remains (to be seen) whether the market breaks loose. Personally, for me, another season in Ajax shirt for Onana and van de Beek is certainly an option, but for Tagliafico, due to his age, it’s slightly different.”
Club CEO van der Sar also admitted that many of the Ajax players want to leave, but he is also adamant that he won’t let go of the club’s prized assets for cheap.
“Big clubs such as Bayern (Munich) have said that transfer fees will go down in coming (transfer) windows, but its easier for them to say this as they are buyers. Of course, the €150 million transfers are gone, but we are sure they is a lot of value for out players. Ajax players are well experienced and very good at playing European football.”
Manchester United All In For The Dutch Midfielder
van de Beek’s current market value is €44 million (£40 m) but as per van der Sar’s comments, Ajax won’t go with this price tag for the midfielder. United are looking to strengthen their midfield in attacking terms for next season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks the 23-year-old would be the perfect addition to the United squad considering both his talent and age. Solskjaer has already been boosted by the signing of Bruno Fernandes in the last transfer window. Solskjaer will look for signings this summer too, though the coronavirus pandemic has implemented financial damages to the club.
van de Beek has made 34 appearances for Ajax this season scoring 14 goals and assisting 10. His 24 direct goal involvements are far more than United’s many of the midfielders. Bruno Fernandes is also just settling in United and has now help from Paul Pogba who returned for United after his long-term injury. A midfield of Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and van de Beek is the wildest of dreams United have it seems.
Ajax has reportedly set a price of £50 million on van de Beek in the transfer window. It is clear that Ajax won’t sell their assets of high potential at a low price despite the pandemic. Ajax boosted their finances by a total €177 million with transfers of de Jong, de Ligt, and Kasper Dolberg. The CEO also confirmed that along with Manchester United, Real Madrid are also in to sign van de Beek.
