Liverpool’s urgency in signing Alisson from Roma has drastically changed the dynamics of the transfer window as it has forced Chelsea to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper.
Chelsea’s shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois is eager for a move to Real Madrid in this summer. The Belgian has hence declined to renew his contract with the Blues, which expires in June 2019. Chelsea is in the market for the 26-year Old’s replacement after they failed to beat Liverpool in signing Alisson.
Donnarumma for Morata?
But Chelsea is not the only club in a dire need of an urgent signing. According to the reports in Italian newspaper Tuttosport, AC Milan are eager to sign a quality striker for the upcoming season. The Italians have shortlisted Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata to be their main man. The Rossoneri are considering a swap move for Morata which will see goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma going the other way.
AC Milan has worked really hard to keep the 19-year old shot-stopper at the club. But after their dismal performances in front of the goal last season, Milan have prioritized the signing of a striker. Morata rose to the stardom during his two-season stint at Juventus. And despite his poor form for Chelsea, Morata’s ability to perform in Serie A will come in handy for AC Milan.
The Spaniard has also been linked with a move back to both Real Madrid and Juventus but no club has tabled an official bid yet. Juve’s bid will depend on the sale of Higuain or Mandzukic after Ronaldo’s arrival. While Real Madrid is in search of a bigger star to replace Ronaldo.
The situation at both the clubs has given AC Milan an edge in signing Alvaro Morata. But they will have to do it at the expense of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The departure of Morata will also create a new headache for Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri who is already worried about the rumored exit of both Courtois and Eden Hazard.
With a number of big European clubs in need of a quality goalkeeper and striker, this transfer window is about the get more and more complex. Like a game of Chess, a move by one club can entirely change the plans of another club.
The signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma will be a great transfer for Chelsea. But can they allow Alvaro Morata to leave when their backup strikers are Oliver Giroud and Michy Batshuayi?
