Silver Jubilee of the 1983 cricket world cup first-time win by India under the captainship of Kapil Dev.
The former Indian skipper and all-rounder Kapil Dev created the history for Indian cricket in 1983. On 25th June 1983, Kapil Dev leads to the first world cup win for India and became the first Indian Captain to grab the highest title of ICC.
The legendary performance by Indian skipper Kapil Dev & bowler Roger Binny played an important role to achieve triumph. The World Cup was hosted in England and Wales. Wherein it featured eight teams. Namely, England, India, Australia, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand & Zimbabwe.
Moreover, twenty-seven matches played in total during the time period of 17 days i.e from 9th June to 25th June. Further, it was played in the format of the double round-robin stage & knockout stage. Hence, India was slotted in group B along with West Indies, Australia, and Zimbabwe.

Firstly, Indians clash with the two times consecutive titleholders West Indies. In which Indian skipper was not able to perform well but the half-century and three wickets haul by Roger Binny help India to take over there first win by 34 runs against the Caribbeans.
Secondly, Asian tigers claim there another win against Zimbabwe by 5 wickets. While chasing the target of 156 in sixty overs Indians complete it in 37.3 overs with the help of half-century by SM Patil. Whereas, Kapil Dev not out on 8 runs and pocketed one wicket in this match.

Thirdly, India suffers from a huge loss against Kangaroos. As they posted 320 runs in the exchange of 9 wickets. However, the best performance was only given by the Kapil from the Indian side. Wherein, Kapil Dev pocketed 5 batsmen of Aussie while bowling and also smashed 40 runs while batting but that was not enough to attain the win due to lack of performance by other Indian batters.
Fourthly, Indians again lost the match against West Indies in which Kapil Dev scored 36 runs and peeled one wicket. Besides these 3 wickets by Binny and 80 runs by M Amarnath also bot able to achieve the victory. Hence, India lost the match by 66 runs.

Fifthly, India succeeded to claim a third win the double round-robin stage against Zimbabwe by 31 runs. However, in this match Indian captain Kapil Dev scored the magnificent not out 175 runs and became the Indian captain to score highest runs in the world cup till 1999 world cup. Therefore, it takes India to a grand total of 266/8 in 60 overs. As a result, Zimbabwe fails to pass the target given by India and lost by 31 runs.
Sixthly, India crowned the remarkable win by 118 runs against Aussies. While batting first India scored all out 247 runs and Kangaroos scored only 129 in the exchange of all wickets. However, four wickets haul by each Madan Lal & Binny help Kapil Dev’s soldiers to bag the fourth win.
Henceforth, India stands 2nd in group B with the existence of 16 points with them. In the first position Caribbeans carved there name with 20 points. Furthermore, West Indies & India qualified for the semifinal from group B. Whereas, England & Pakistan from group B.

While batting first England smashed the grand total of 213/10 in 60 overs. However, Graeme Flower was the top scorer from the English side. As he scored the 33 runs in 59 balls. Whereas, due to the perfect bowling attack from the Indian side British batters were not able to achieve big runs.
Whereas, best bowling performance by Indian legend Kapil Dev skinned 3 English batters in the exchange of 35 runs with an economy of almost 3. Additionally, Binny & Amarnath took two wickets each. Hence, while batting half-century by Sandeep Patil & Yashpal Sharma helps India to bag an easy win in semifinal.

After the easy win in semifinals against England. Similarly, West Indies also gets the easy win over Pakistan in 2nd semifinal. Yet the Caribbean team became the only team at that time to travel consecutively three times up to the ICC world cup final.
Henceforth, on 25th June 1983, India played the historic cricket match in their cricketing history. As they scored only 183 runs but they defend it properly due to perfect leadership and decisions taken by the Indian skipper.
The toss won by the West Indies and offered India to bat first. Further Indians accept Srikkanth, SM Patil & Amarnath none of the other batsmen was able to score above 20 runs. Hence, it leads to only get 183 run total on the board from the Indian side.
On the other hand, while bowling Indian skipper takes advantage of climatic conditions. As they stop Caribbean’s at only 143 runs due to the perfect decision-making power of Kapil Dev. However, he properly used the bowling line up. As a result, Madan Lal and Amarnath hauled 3 wickets each with an economy of 2.58 & 1.71 respectively. Hence, Kapil Dev also the economical bowler in the final match with 1.9 runs per match. Finally, India won the match by 43 runs.
Overall, Kapil Dev was the top scorer in the whole tournament from the Indian side. As he scored 303 total runs in 8 matches. Whereas, Roger Binny was the top wicket-taker in the whole world cup by scalping 18 wickets in 8 matches. Hence, he became the best bowler in the 1983 world cup. Lastly, Kapil Dev became the first leader of India to win the world cup. As it completes the 25th anniversary of the victory on 25th June 2020.
