2019/20 Premier League extension could affect five Chelsea players

Chelsea star seems unsettled by lack of matches

The Premier League has declared that they are now going to extend this season beyond 1st June. Therefore it may continue up to 30th June.

Coronavirus has created a bad impact on world football. As a result, European club football is facing lot of problems. Players like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Rugani, Matuidi and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta are affected. This could affect five Chelsea players. Here are those players as follows:

Willy Caballero

Willy Caballero is currently aa Chelsea goalkeeper. He has a contract with Chelsea which is going to end on 30th June. As the league is going to extend, therefore it could be a problem for both Caballero and Chelsea manager Lampard. In the last few weeks, Caballero is starting ahead of Kepa for the Blues. Therefore, if Caballero does not sign a new contract within this period, his career at the Stamford Bridge is over.


Willian is a performer for the blues day in day out. This Brazillian winger has refused to increase his contract with the blues a few times. Willian is an important player in the Chelsea squad. His contract is going to end in June this year. Willian always finds his place in the Chelsea first eleven. Willian has played 28 times in the Premier League this season. Where he scored 5 goals and also provided five assists.


This Spanish winger is another important player in the Chelsea squad. His contract is also going to end with Chelsea this June. With the injuries, he has managed to appear in 9 matches for the Blues. As the 32 years old forward has the ability to create a lot on the pitch. Although, Pedro’s age is not on his side. Still, his ability to score goals and provide assists is better than most of his teammates.

Olivier Giroud

The striker is going through lots of things since the beginning of the season. He played fewer games this season. Once he was preparing to leave Chelsea in the last winter window. But things did not work out for him as the Blues failed to replace him. Suddenly, after the January window, he finds his place in Chelsea’s starting eleven. Before the suspension of the season, he started 11 matches for the Blues. However, his contract is going to end this summer.

Marco van Ginkel

Marko van Ginkel has a contract with Chelsea that is going to end in summer this year. Though this will not affect Chelsea as much as others. This Dutch midfielder is not a key player of the Chelsea squad. He is yet to appear for the Blues this season. He returned from injuries in November last year and still doing his rehabilitation.
